Nicholas Moegly is a Midwestern illustrator who specializes in creating dark, nostalgic images that play with light and shadow. Nicholas has worked with several Grammy-winning artists, several Fortune 500 companies, international clothing and beverage brands, and his work has been exhibited in galleries around the world.
In Nicholas Moegly’s shadow-laden illustrations, wild animals descend into backyards and unoccupied streets lit by artificial lights. The Cincinnati-based artist focuses primarily on the quiet, mundane landscapes of Midwestern suburbia, though each of his works includes surreal details that shroud the scenes in mystery: a lamp with no apparent power source sits haphazardly on the sidewalk, an empty car pulls out of the driveway with its headlights still on, and deer munch on grass strangely near a small tent.
