Strange Nightmares

There are artists and works that mark you with a red-hot iron the moment you put your eyes on them. I have for my part a real attraction for all that touches the horror, the strange, the bizarre. Without knowing why, I like to feel this unique feeling of vertigo in front of a work, this incomprehension in front of what I observe. This is where horror is a perfect playground for me, it can intrude everywhere, in the smallest corners of our reality.

It is on this playground that the Russian artist Oleg Vdovenko has fun. 2D and 3D artist, he realizes all kinds of illustrations and animation videos in a universe that tends to a nightmare at times. In his different series, we can discover a police raid in a house filled with horrible creatures, or a soldier from the future to face knights. All this, not to mention the video game he is currently working on: Ill.

The strength of these works is their almost ultra-realism. Oleg’s technique is such that at times it seems as if we’ve stumbled upon food footage, lost images from news reports that have gone wrong. Beware, this is not for everyone, it is sometimes necessary to be well hung, but if the darkness speaks to you, then quickly dive into the crazy universe of this artist.
