Heavy Viking Metal
When you tackle Scandinavian mythology with a touch of fantasy and Heavy Metal in your features, I am inevitably interested! Sam Flegal created his Fateful Signs project by chance. In 2012, while working as a freelance illustrator, he found himself without a commission or contract for a month. This moment will be an opportunity for him to let his creativity speak for himself, and not for one of his clients.
From this creative impulse is born his first illustration of Loki, which will actually be the first step of what will become Fateful Signs. Drawing from this grandiose mythology, but also dark and violent at times, Sam Flegal creates numerous illustrations of the greatest stories of Nordic tales and legends. His passion for this culture, which he discovered during his many hours spent in the library as a teenager, is now leading him to a project that is gaining momentum. He has already completed two illustrated books and I think he is far from having finished his exploration of the myths of Freya, Odin, and Thor.
His style is reminiscent of the covers of many Metal albums and fantasy role-playing game covers that I used to play when I was younger.
