The Art of Florian Bertmer
When Macabre and Art Nouveau Meets
My first love with the art and design is due to some artists from the beginning of the 20e century, such as Alfons Mucha or Gustav Klimt. I always found their style and their technique really detailed. They succeed through their time to create unforgettable artworks that continue to inspire artists today. German painter Florian Bertmer is one of the Art Nouveau’s heir.
He find his inspiration in the Art Nouveau’s masters but also with modern illustrators such as Mike Mignola or Pushead. The great majority of his work deals with occult and macabre symbols and he loves to mix those elements with Pop-Culture. He created for example gorgeous illustrations on some horror movies such as Alien or Holy Moutain. By the way, we can see in some of his work the inspiration that he took from the tattoo graphic world. For example his amazing Call of Cthulhu illustration, probably one of my favorite of HP Lovecraft‘s work.
