Getting lost in the Scandinavian mythological forests
Once is not customary, we make again a detour in the heart of a mythology, this time with the Swedish artist Johan Egerkrans. The latter has notably published several illustrated books devoted to different aspects of Scandinavian imagination. He retraces the Nordic Gods in Norse Gods, the spirits and monsters of Norwegian folklore in Vaesen or the living dead in different cultures of the world with The Undead.
It is with a very particular trait that this artist revisits and presents these different myths to us. We find a feature that undeniably reminds us of fantasy, sometimes even of the masters of the Franco-Belgian comics, so much so that we would like to discover dozens of graphic novels illustrated in this way. The style of Johan Egerkrans is perfect to represent these stories of dark fantasy, finding a happy medium between the dark side of these myths and their legend that still persists today.
I strongly invite you to discover the rest of Johan’s work via his website or his Instagram page, it’s worth the trip!
