In the Grim Darkness of a Far Future…
I do not know about you, but I used to love collecting, painting and playing miniatures. I was a Warhammer player ! I used to spend whole afternoons painting my little plastic fellows in order to line up the most powerful Skaven army. During the week-ends though, after throwing tons of dice, I picked up, sheepish, my fallen soldiers who had just been dismembered by a horde of bad ass Orcs… I admit, I have never won a single game.
Sigh.
But in the end, more than the game itself, it was the universe I loved (I still do !). The stories are extraordinary, the world thrilling and the illustrations mind blowing.
Karl Kopinsky is one of the illustrators who helped bring the worlds of Warhammer to life.
Karl is an artist, a real one. In the academic sense of the word. He masters traditional techniques as well as digital. His portraits, done in oil painting, are simply stunningly realistic. Surely you have already seen his work, without knowing it… Karl Kopinsky is indeed everywhere: he worked a lot on the illustrations for Magic the Gathering card game ( I’ve never won a single game of Magic too, now that I think about it …), on concept arts for the worlds of video games and on many board games, especially for Rackham and Cool Mini or Not (Zombicide, The Godfather Boardgame, Cthulhu Death May Die…).
You will surely recognize some of his work on his site. And of course, I invite you to browse his instagram to give you an idea of the extent of his talents.
