The Dark Illustrations of Marcelo Ventura
The Punk and Dark Pop-Culture
I’m far from being an artist, really. Also, when I discover people that learn by themselves, without any formal education and who are able to create true masterpieces, I can only be in a total state of admiration. The Brazilian artist Marcelo Ventura is one of those artists.
With a dark and unique style, he takes fun to revisit a lot of universe from the 80s and 90s through the cinema, the TV or video-games, and most of all, he makes them meet in incredible ways. And that’s clearly what I love about him over here: his dark, sinister, and comic-book style that he puts in all his creations. Taking his inspiration in major artists such as Todd McFarlane or J. Scott Campbell, the Brazilian artist shows us unique artworks, that are going to stay in your mind. You’ll meet a post-apo version of Le Petit Prince, the Mario Bros in the Walking Dead world or even Scooby and Shaggy with Into The Wild.
I became a true fan of Marcelo Ventura’s work and I can’t wait to discover what’s next. I can’t stop thinking about stories with those new versions of cult characters that are darker, unglamorous, in short, punk. Go and check out his Instagram and Facebook page to be amazed!
