The Project “Trench Crusade” of Mike Franchina
When Warhammer 40K meets H.R. Giger
When an artist decides to leave Blizzard to work on his or her own universe, you might find it intriguing and wonder clearly what it could be like. Well, to say the least, I fell in fascination with the work of Mike Franchina and his Trench Crusade project.
This incredible project is based on the creation of many concept arts on a world at the crossroads of Warhammer 40K, H.R. Giger at times, and Clive Barker. Mike portrays a world that resembles the conflict of World War I, where we meet characters that I find already iconic. We see soldiers from a kind of inquisition that has gone absolutely crazy, paladins, obscure cults and sects, creatures that have come straight from another world? The universe Mike Franchina is creating is as bewitching as it is confusing, offering us a horrific world in the midst of a religious war.
I am a fan of this kind of project, where an artist allows himself to create his own universe and push it as far as possible. Feel free to discover Mike’s Instagram or Artstation page to dive even more into the world of Trench Crusade.
