The Sacred Art of Gedo
In the name of the Art, the Pop and David Bowie, Amen!
Many artists had fun by the fast, for our greatest joy, to imagine iconic characters from the Pop-Culture in all possible versions: from Disney, Tim Burton vibes, even in pin-up, a lot of different styles had already been seen. But over here, we clearly have one of the most imaginative revisits that I see!
Gedo, also known as gedofx, started some weeks ago a project where he is having fun to transformed characters from Pop-Culture to religious idols in a traditional style. A lot of painting codes are here and more than respected: we can see the halo, the sacred-heart, the golden colors and we can easily see those artworks side by side with other traditional paintings. But where Gedo finds all his style and originality is when he chose characters that nobody would imagine pictured like this. We can see Mia from Pulp Fiction with a needle in the heart, Tyler from Fight Club with a bar of soap in place of the heart or John Wick with his beloved dog.
Wether you like the almost naive execution of those artworts or not, the concept shows literally what those pop culture characters have become : icons. Those heroes and bad guys are the modern mythology we now adore !
