Tribute to Noriyoshi Ohrai

Noriyoshi Ohrai (1935-2015)

You may not know the name Noriyoshi Ohrai, but you certainly know his work, especialy if you are a fan of Star Wars. He indeed created what is, to me, the most gorgeous Star Wars movie poster ever : The Empire Strikes Back. After this collaboration with Lucas, Ohrai said goodbye to his former life of advertising illustrator (he also worked for the manga industry, and did some pulp covers at the same time), and embraced the career of poster designer. He worked a lot with Lucasfilm and delivered some real master pieces, but he also worked on numerous Godzilla posters (those are incredible), as well as Metal Gear artworks. He also worked on Mad Max, and on… The Goonies. This genius left us yesterday at the age of 79, but his work definitely belongs to the stars… Forever.
